PUBG Asia Stars 2026: The Himass-TanVuu Lifetime Ban Exposes Esports' Regulatory Gaps

During the PUBG Asia Stars 2026 tournament, South Korean streamer Soopi accused two Vietnamese pro players, Himass and TanVuu, of 'stream sniping' her to gain information about her position on the map. What initially looked like another online tournament squabble quickly became one of the most controversial governance cases in esports. KRAFTON initially removed both players from the event and stripped their 'PUBG Vietnam Partner' status, then admitted the announcement was rushed before an incomplete investigation. The final report found the two had received information shown in the online chat feed, but no conclusive evidence that they deliberately watched an opponent's screen for an advantage. The tournament rules at the time had no explicit ban on receiving chat-feed information, which became the core of the controversy. The Vietnamese PUBG community and several pros defended Himass and TanVuu, arguing that with no rule in place, using chat information could not be proven as misconduct. Meanwhile, questions were raised about Soopi's own behavior, as she reportedly kept multiple browser windows open during matches. KRAFTON did not investigate that side, drawing further criticism. Himass and TanVuu initially said they would accept the temporary disadvantage for a quick resolution, but KRAFTON then handed down a global lifetime ban: their PUBG accounts permanently closed, and the players barred from all official KRAFTON-sanctioned events including PGC, PGS, PNC and all PUBG Esports competitions worldwide. KRAFTON claimed the decision followed a comprehensive review and that the players violated operating policy related to fairness and pro conduct. Yet the regulator had already admitted to premature action, and it did not reduce the punishment after its own acknowledgment. Community anger focused on the absence of a clear rule at a showmatch, the unprecedented severity of a global ban in such a case, and the failure to investigate Soopi. In Vietnam, veteran streamers like Rambo and former national coach DJChip publicly uninstalled the game, while Himass and TanVuu appeared to be moving toward Delta Force. The uninstall posts signaled more than personal frustration: a market shifting away. Every league sells hope, but the operator has to invoice it. In this case, the invoice went to the players' careers. The real verdict, though, was not about Himass and TanVuu alone. It was about who controls risk in esports when the rulebook fails — and whether a fan, who is a stakeholder without voting rights, has any say at all. Vietnam's PUBG scene will not remain the same.
